Vintage Classic: Denis Potvin, 1973 Sports Posters Inc. (Lewis Portnoy)

Nearly ten years ago, we purchased from a New England-area collectibles dealer, a large quantity of posters from the 1973-1975 NHL hockey poster series from Sports Photos, Inc. This short-lived company was the brainchild of legendary Hall of Fame photographer Lewis Portnoy, who sought to market his groundbreaking arena action photography to the mass market. We’ve been selling off the stock from this purchase for the past decade; you’ll see the selection here: The Portnoy Collection, 1973-1975. In that decade, we had NEVER seen the Denis Potvin poster from the series…that is, until last weekend, when we managed to obtain 8 of these vintage posters from another dealer at the Sports Card and Memorabilia show in Toronto! Here’s a picture of this rare beauty – from the Hall of Fame defenseman’s rookie year, no less:
