2008-2009 NHL Season-Mid-Season Report

January 7, 2009
The 2008-2009 NHL season is at it’s midway point. There have been a ton of great hits, saves and goals. The action has been both intense and fierce. The power house teams, the Sharks, Red Wings, Capitals and Flames have all continued to dominate the league, as they all sit at the top of their respective divisions. The Bruins and Flyers have both been major surprises this season. While both teams are in first place in their division, the big surprise is the convincing fashion in which they’ve done it, having dismantled many high quality teams in the process.
As per usual, veterans Joe Thornton, Jarome Iginla and Marian Hossa lead both their teams and the league in many offensive categories. These players seem to be counted upon year after year. Young superstars Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin each continue to dominate the National Hockey League. With tremendous speed, talent and physical attributes, these players will control the game of hockey for years to come.
There is a new breed of young superstars that are currently making their ascent in the NHL. These players all have superb skill, desire and flash, and should all be factors in the NHL for quite some time. With that said, Sports Poster Warehouse is celebrating the great start to the season and to these young, up and coming stars with brand new NHL player posters.

Bobby Orr-“The Goal”

January 2, 2009

The staff here at Sports Poster Warehouse are indeed very excited! For one, it is now 2009! Thus, we wish you a happy and healthy new year. We are also stoked because we have just gotten one of the most sought after and memorable sports photographs ever!

It was May 10, 1970 – Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals at the Boston Garden – and, despite being dominated for the first three games of the series, the St. Louis Blues clawed their way to a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation time. As the stuffy air at the old barn thickened with anticipation, the puck dropped for the extra frame. On the first shift, the series built to a crescendo: Derek Sanderson retrieved the puck behind the net, sent it in front to the pinching defenseman, and in a split-second – SNAP – the puck is redirected past Glen Hall, Bobby Orr dives headlong in joy across the crease, the fans go crazy, and the rest is history! In classic black-and-white, this legendary photographic image has it all: Orr’s ecstacy; Hall’s defeated stumble; the Garden’s now-lost majesty; the fans’ instant reaction; all culminating in the moment that the Bruins finally won the Cup again for the first time in 29 years.
